Depression and the Dog

I am currenly rather severely depressed. It is amazing how the dog picks up on that and acts accordingly. He is always an affectionate dog, but he is currently going out of his way to lick my hand, nudge my hip with his head, or cuddle up beside me. Dogs are wonderful creatures, and a helluva lot more dependable than people are.

As for Christmas -- Ho Ho Har-dee-Ho.

What is a Hearing Ear Dog?

Hearing ear dogs alert deaf/hard of hearing people to sound. They also give people more independence and confidence. The dog hears a sound and alerts the handler by touch, then leads the handler to the sound.

Bosley alerts me to timers, alarm clocks, fire alarms, the phone, the door, the kettle, and people calling my name. He also lets me know if someone is walking behind us up a dark street, or if there is someone around the house he doesn't know.

Bosley is a labrador retriever. Typical breeds used for hearing ear dogs are small to medium-sized, such as a miniature poodles, but labs are used, and so are standard poodles.
